(CLP) Programs
Appleton Greene corporate training programs are all process-driven. They are used as vehicles to implement tangible business processes within clients’ organizations, together with training, support and facilitation during the use of these processes. Corporate training programs are therefore implemented over a sustainable period of time, that is to say, between 1 year (incorporating 12 monthly workshops), and 4 years (incorporating 48 monthly workshops). Your program information guide will specify how long each program takes to complete. Each monthly workshop takes 6 hours to implement and can be undertaken either on the client’s premises, an Appleton Greene serviced office, or online via the internet. This enables clients to implement each part of their business process, before moving onto the next stage of the program and enables employees to plan their study time around their current work commitments. The result is far greater program benefit, over a more sustainable period of time and a significantly improved return on investment.
Appleton Greene uses standard and bespoke corporate training programs as vessels to transfer business process improvement knowledge into the heart of our clients’ organizations. Each individual program focuses upon the implementation of a specific business process, which enables clients to easily quantify their return on investment. There are hundreds of established Appleton Greene corporate training products now available to clients within customer services, e-business, finance, globalization, human resources, information technology, legal, management, marketing and production. Appleton Greene corporate training programs can be provided virtually or locally and they are all unique in that they individually focus upon a specific business function. This program invites companies to embrace a purpose-driven, conscious business model that not only enhances profitability but also fosters a united, engaged, and aligned team.
History of Conscious Capitalism:
Conscious Capitalism emerged in the late 20th century as a response to the limitations of the traditional profit-driven business model. Pioneered by leaders like John Mackey of Whole Foods and Raj Sisodia, this movement emphasizes that businesses should operate with a higher purpose, benefiting all stakeholders—employees, customers, suppliers, communities, and the environment—not just shareholders. By aligning profit with purpose, companies can achieve sustainable growth and create a positive impact on society.
Financial Drivers:
Research consistently shows that companies adopting Conscious Capitalism principles outperform their competitors. Businesses that prioritize purpose, trust, and stakeholder well-being experience improved employee engagement, increased customer loyalty, and stronger financial performance. Studies have found that companies with higher employee engagement see up to a 21% increase in profitability. By adopting these principles, businesses not only enhance their bottom line but also create a resilient, adaptable organization capable of thriving in an ever-changing market.
Why It Matters:
In today’s business landscape, companies face growing pressure to balance profitability with social responsibility. Conscious Capitalism provides a roadmap for businesses to move from short-term profit strategies to long-term value creation. By focusing on purpose, building trust, and engaging all stakeholders, companies can create a more loyal workforce, deepen relationships with customers, and deliver sustained value to all involved. This shift to a conscious business model is essential for businesses that want to remain relevant, ethical, and profitable in the long run.
Throughout this program, participants will explore the foundational elements of Conscious Capitalism through Appreciative Inquiry and experiential learning.
In Year 1, the focus is on connecting to purpose. The program emphasizes creating a culture of trust, deep listening, and effective communication that empowers teams to excel. Experiential learning will guide participants in crafting a purpose-driven vision and aligning their strengths, passions, and values with sustainable business growth.
Year 2 shifts to stakeholder focus and cultural transformation, integrating purpose and values into daily operations, HR practices, and stakeholder relationships. Process Planning and Development: Connecting to Purpose – Part 1- Year 1
- Part 1 Month 1 Conscious Foundations – This workshop introduces the foundational concepts of Conscious Capitalism, emphasizing how purpose-driven business models like B Corps and Benefit Corporations can generate sustainable impact. You’ll explore the core principles that differentiate conscious businesses, mainly focusing on trust’s critical role in creating and maintaining these models. Trust is not just a value but the cornerstone of positive organizational change, serving as the bedrock upon which all other elements of conscious business are built. Through an Appreciative Inquiry approach, participants will engage in reflective exercises and discussions, identifying areas where trust can be strengthened within their organizations. This interactive session will also involve experiential learning opportunities, allowing participants to experience firsthand the impact of trust in business. By the end of this workshop, you’ll have a solid understanding of how conscious business models work and why trust is essential for long-term success, providing you with the tools to begin building a more purpose-driven and trustworthy organization.
- Part 1 Month 2 Purposeful Awareness – This session invites you to explore how greater awareness—of both your organization’s core strengths and the hidden patterns that shape behavior—can unlock a more connected and purpose-aligned culture. You’ll begin by learning how to apply Appreciative Inquiry, a proven, strengths-based method for identifying what’s working and building on it. Through interactive exercises, you’ll surface the positive core of your organization and begin articulating a shared sense of purpose that energizes your team. The session then expands your lens to explore how default thinking and blind spots can quietly influence decisions, relationships, and performance. By uncovering these patterns and aligning them with your organization’s values, you’ll create a more thoughtful, respectful, and trust-filled workplace. The result? A clearer, more intentional path toward a flourishing culture—one where people feel seen, supported, and committed to shared goals.
- Part 1 Month 3 Resilient Leadership – In this workshop, you’ll explore how to lead with both wisdom and resilience by understanding the inner workings of your mind and learning to manage your energy under pressure. Drawing from neuroscience, systems thinking, and emotional intelligence, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how your brain shapes your leadership style—and how to tap into greater clarity, empathy, and purpose in your day-to-day decisions. You’ll also discover how to transform stress into a powerful source of strength. Using practices inspired by Leading Well from Within and grounded in Appreciative Inquiry, you’ll build your own leadership toolkit for emotional regulation, energy renewal, and creative problem-solving. This workshop helps you become the kind of leader others trust and want to follow: clear-headed, composed, and deeply connected to both vision and values. By the end, you’ll walk away with practical strategies to lead with confidence, navigate complexity, and cultivate a thriving organizational climate—even in the face of challenge.
- Part 1 Month 4 Holistic Balance – Embark on a journey toward achieving harmony and renewal in your leadership practice through a holistic approach that balances mind, body, spirit, and connection. This workshop offers a mini-retreat experience, allowing you to step back from the daily demands of leadership and focus on your overall well-being. Through Appreciative Inquiry and experiential learning, you’ll explore integrating practices that support mental clarity, physical vitality, spiritual grounding, and meaningful connections in your life. You’ll engage in activities that promote relaxation, reflection, and rejuvenation, helping you to restore balance and maintain sustained well-being. By the end of this session, you’ll have a personalized plan for maintaining a holistic approach to leadership, ensuring that you can lead with renewed energy, purpose, and effectiveness. This holistic balance will enhance your leadership capabilities and contribute to your overall happiness and fulfillment.
- Part 1 Month 5 Purpose Roadmap – This immersive workshop guides you through a complete journey of discovering, defining, and aligning your organization’s higher purpose. You’ll begin by reflecting on your organizational story-mining the past for successes, turning points, and meaningful patterns that reveal the strengths and values already at work within your team. Using Appreciative Inquiry, you’ll extract insights that inform a bold, aspirational vision for the future. From there, you’ll dive into discovering your organization’s unique purpose by exploring the intersection of what you do best, what fuels your passion, and where you create the greatest impact and value. Drawing on frameworks like Jim Collins’ “Hedgehog Concept,” this stage reveals not just what your organization does—but why it truly matters. Finally, you’ll learn how to craft a clear, compelling purpose statement and align it with a renewed vision, mission, and set of values. The result is a powerful, integrated framework that serves as a strategic compass for your culture, operations, and leadership. By the end of this workshop, you’ll walk away with a cohesive Purpose Roadmap—one that inspires your people, differentiates your organization, and guides purposeful decision-making at every level.
- Part 1 Month 6 Leadership Blueprint – This focused workshop equips you to create and implement a Leadership Checklist—a practical and values-based tool to help ensure leadership at every level aligns with your organization’s purpose, mission, and vision. Inspired by Bob Chapman’s work in Everybody Matters, the Leadership Checklist acts as both a guide and a commitment: a set of clear, intentional behaviors and expectations that define what great leadership looks like within your organization. You’ll begin by exploring the essential qualities and actions that support conscious leadership—from how leaders communicate and build trust, to how they support growth and accountability. Using Appreciative Inquiry, you’ll surface stories and examples from your organization that reflect leadership at its best. From these patterns, you’ll co-create a custom checklist tailored to your organization’s goals, values, and culture. Finally, you’ll explore strategies for integrating the checklist into leadership development, feedback loops, and selection processes—ensuring it becomes a living, evolving part of how leaders lead. By the end of this session, you’ll have a working Leadership Checklist and a clear plan for how to use it to support and strengthen leadership across your organization.
- Part 1 Month 7 Stakeholder Strategy – This workshop explores how to align your organization’s goals with the needs and expectations of all key stakeholders to create long-term success and mutual value. You’ll begin by learning the principles of stakeholder orientation and value co-creation, using Appreciative Inquiry to identify where your organization is already building strong relationships—and where new opportunities for alignment exist. From there, you’ll dive into six core stakeholder groups: customers, employees, community, investors, suppliers, and the environment. For each group, you’ll assess their unique needs and contributions, then develop strategies to strengthen engagement, loyalty, and shared impact. You’ll examine how to create meaningful experiences for customers, invest in a motivated workforce, and make a lasting contribution to the communities and ecosystems you touch. Through real-world scenarios and collaborative reflection, you’ll craft a customized stakeholder strategy that is aligned with your purpose and built for sustainability. By the end of this session, you’ll walk away with practical tools and a clear, integrated approach for creating value-driven partnerships across your stakeholder ecosystem.
- Part 1 Month 8 Cultural Blueprint – In this workshop, you’ll lay the foundation for a thriving culture by first exploring the TACTILE principles—Trust, Authenticity, Caring, Transparency, Integrity, Learning, and Empowerment—as key drivers of a workplace where people feel connected, valued, and inspired to do their best work. Using Appreciative Inquiry, you’ll surface stories of your culture at its best, identify what makes those moments meaningful, and uncover the shared values already alive within your team. With those insights, you’ll shift into the design phase—developing a comprehensive Culture Playbook that translates your values into clear, actionable practices. This strategic document becomes your roadmap for embedding culture into daily operations—from communication and decision-making to recognition and performance. You’ll learn how to document and communicate your cultural vision in a way that is both inspiring and practical, creating a shared language and guide for everyone in your organization. By the end of this session, you’ll walk away with a Cultural Blueprint: a unifying vision and implementation plan that empowers your team to live your values and shape a strong, cohesive culture every day.
- Part 1 Month 9 Aligned Operations – In this workshop, you’ll learn how to embed your organization’s purpose, values, and stakeholder commitments into the core of your operational systems—turning aspirational ideals into everyday action. Across both customer-facing and internal functions, you’ll explore how to align your business practices with your higher purpose to build consistency, efficiency, and trust. The first half of the session focuses on Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service—examining how to deliver a seamless, values-aligned experience that resonates with stakeholders and reflects your mission at every touchpoint. In the second half, you’ll shift to Finance, Legal and Compliance, Operations, and IT—critical areas that must also reflect your organization’s principles to ensure integrity and cohesion. Using Appreciative Inquiry and experiential learning, you’ll identify where alignment already exists, uncover opportunities for greater coherence, and develop tailored strategies for integrating purpose into your procedures. By the end, you’ll walk away with a practical, organization-wide integration plan—ensuring your values aren’t just spoken but consistently lived in every aspect of how your business runs.
- Part 1 Month 10 People-Centered Strategy – This workshop focuses on aligning your people strategy with your organization’s purpose, mission, and values—turning Human Resources into a powerful driver of culture and performance. Using Appreciative Inquiry, you’ll identify opportunities to attract and retain talent who resonate with your organization’s values and are motivated to contribute meaningfully. From there, you’ll shift into performance and recognition—exploring how to design systems that inspire excellence, foster engagement, and reinforce your cultural priorities. You’ll learn to create recognition programs and performance management tools that not only measure results but also reflect the behaviors and values you want to cultivate throughout the organization. By the end of this session, you’ll walk away with a clear strategy for aligning your entire employee experience—from entry to exit—with your organizational purpose, creating a cohesive and motivating environment that supports long-term success.
- Part 1 Month 11 Vision Activation – In this pivotal workshop, you’ll bring together all the essential elements of your organization’s identity—Purpose, Mission, Vision, Values, Leadership Checklist, Operating Procedures, and Cultural Playbook—and translate them into a clear, actionable roadmap for strategic execution. The first part of the session focuses on unifying these core principles into cohesive themes that are easy to communicate, apply, and reinforce throughout your organization. Through guided exercises, you’ll simplify and synthesize your cultural and strategic anchors into tools that inspire teams, align decision-making, and support long-term consistency. From there, you’ll move into activation—learning how to turn your aligned vision into measurable action using Objectives and Key Results (OKRs). You’ll identify the top strategic initiatives that will move your organization forward, prioritize them based on impact and feasibility, and build an OKR framework that ensures clarity, accountability, and momentum. By the end of the session, you’ll walk away with a strategic alignment toolkit—one that bridges identity and execution, and sets the stage for purpose-driven, results-oriented progress across your organization.
- Part 1 Month 12 Conscious Ascent – This is the culminating experience of your transformational journey—an opportunity to reflect, integrate, and elevate all that’s been discovered, built, and lived throughout the program. In this workshop, you’ll begin by grounding in the foundational communication practices that foster trust, collaboration, and connection. Through deep listening, honest dialogue, and meaningful storytelling, you’ll strengthen the bonds that sustain conscious leadership and culture. Next, you’ll shift into crafting a communication strategy that reflects who your organization has become. You’ll design messaging that carries your purpose forward—both internally and externally—with clarity, consistency, and emotional resonance. This ensures that your people, your stakeholders, and your systems remain aligned as your organization continues to evolve. Finally, you’ll celebrate the transformation. Using insights from Appreciative Inquiry, the Flywheel concept, and high-performing team practices, you’ll reflect on milestones, recognize individual and collective contributions, and create rituals that reinforce your values and fuel continued growth. This isn’t just an ending—it’s a launch point. By the close of Conscious Ascent, your team will leave with a renewed sense of purpose, a shared language for what matters most, and the tools to carry the work forward with energy, clarity, and intention.
Methodology
Conscious Leadership Ascent
Planning and Development
Appreciative Inquiry (ai) is a strengths-based, collaborative approach to organizational development and change management. It focuses on identifying and leveraging the positive aspects of an organization to create a vision for future growth and success. AI encourages collective dialogue, storytelling, and the co-creation of desired outcomes.
Key Elements (evolved by xchange)
The adoption of an appreciative inquiry (ai) framework brings a host of benefits to organizations. First and foremost, it shifts the focus from merely solving problems to identifying and amplifying strengths, which fosters a positive organizational culture and mindset. This shift not only promotes a sense of optimism but also enhances engagement and empowerment among employees. When all stakeholders are involved in the ai process, they feel valued and invested, leading to increased levels of commitment to the organization’s goals.
Moreover, Appreciative Inquiry promotes collaborative innovation by encouraging open dialogue and co-creation. This collaborative approach results in innovative solutions that are supported and implemented by the collective efforts of team members. Additionally, by highlighting positive stories and celebrating successes, ai boosts morale and cultivates a sense of pride and ownership among employees.
Another crucial benefit is the alignment of organizational change initiatives with core values and strengths. This ensures that changes are both authentic and sustainable. Appreciative Inquiry also takes a holistic approach, considering the entire system and integrating diverse perspectives, which leads to comprehensive and systemic change. Ultimately, by building on existing strengths and fostering a positive vision for the future, ai lays a strong foundation for sustainable, long-term change within the organization.
Appreciative Inquiry is a powerful approach that leverages the positive aspects of an organization to drive meaningful and sustainable change, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Systems Thinking: An approach to understanding and managing complex systems by recognizing the interrelationships and interdependencies among various components within an organization. This holistic perspective considers how different parts of a system influence one another within the whole. Systems Thinking encourages leaders to view problems as part of an overall system rather than isolated events, which helps in identifying root causes and long-term solutions.
Understanding complex systems requires a recognition of their interconnectedness; every part of the system is linked, and a change in one area can significantly impact the entire structure. This interconnectedness leads us to acknowledge the presence of feedback loops, which can either amplify or stabilize the behavior of the system. Some feedback loops may work positively, enhancing certain outcomes, while others might have a negative impact, creating challenges.
Additionally, when examining these systems, it’s essential to identify emergent properties—behaviors and characteristics that arise from the interactions among the components. These properties often cannot be understood by looking at the individual parts in isolation; it is the collective interaction that gives rise to new phenomena.
Taking a holistic view allows us to focus on the overall structure, patterns, and cycles within the system, offering a deeper understanding of complex issues. This perspective not only helps in identifying leverage points for change but also leads to improved problem-solving by targeting root causes rather than merely addressing superficial symptoms. As a result, organizations can enhance their capacity to predict and manage the consequences of changes, leading to better alignment of strategies and actions across various facets of the organization.
Experiential Learning Theory (ELT) is a holistic learning approach developed by David Kolb, which emphasizes learning through experience and reflection. According to ELT, learning is a process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of experience. This theory posits that learners gain understanding through a cyclical process involving four stages: Concrete Experience, Reflective Observation, Abstract Conceptualization, and Active Experimentation.
Experiential learning encompasses several key elements that work together to enhance the learning process. It begins with concrete experience, where individuals engage in hands-on or practical activities that serve as the foundation for their learning. This initial stage is all about doing and immersing oneself in an experience.
Following this, learners move into reflective observation, a phase that encourages them to think critically about what transpired during their experiences. This reflection invites them to consider the events from various perspectives, examining the outcomes to gain deeper insights.
The third element is abstract conceptualization, where learners synthesize their reflections to formulate theories or concepts. During this stage, they make sense of their observations and integrate them into a coherent framework or model, laying the groundwork for understanding.
Finally, active experimentation allows learners to apply the ideas and concepts they have developed. By testing their theories in new situations, they can see the practical implications of their learning and refine their understanding further.
The benefits of this approach to learning are substantial. It enhances retention, as experiences tend to be more memorable and impactful, leading to a better grasp of knowledge. Moreover, the process fosters a deeper understanding, equipping learners with the ability to apply concepts in various contexts. Active experimentation bridges the gap between theory and practice, enabling immediate application of newfound knowledge. Additionally, experiential learning promotes personal growth, nurturing self-awareness and adaptability through ongoing cycles of learning and reflection.
Implementation and Review
Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) is a goal-setting framework used by individuals, teams, and organizations to define measurable goals and track their outcomes. It aims to ensure alignment, focus, and engagement around measurable and ambitious goals.
OKRs offer several significant benefits that enhance an organization’s effectiveness. First and foremost, they promote alignment and focus by aligning the efforts of individuals and teams with the organization’s strategic goals. By clearly defining objectives and key results, everyone understands the priorities and can work towards the same targets.
In addition, OKRs provide clarity and transparency, establishing a framework where goals and progress are visible to all members of the organization. This visibility fosters accountability and ensures that everyone knows what is expected of them.
Moreover, setting ambitious yet achievable goals can significantly boost motivation and engagement among employees. As they track their progress and work towards key results, they experience a sense of accomplishment that further enhances their commitment to their work.
The agility and flexibility of OKRs are also noteworthy. Typically set for short periods—such as quarterly or annually—OKRs allow organizations to remain responsive and adjust their goals as circumstances and insights evolve.
Another vital aspect is the emphasis on measurable outcomes. The key results component ensures that outcomes are quantifiable, making it easier to track progress and assess success objectively.
Furthermore, the iterative nature of OKRs promotes continuous improvement, encouraging regular reflection and reassessment of goals and progress. This cycle of evaluation leads to ongoing learning and enhancement within the organization.
Lastly, OKRs effectively bridge the gap between strategy and execution by breaking down broad objectives into actionable key results. This ensures that strategic goals are implemented effectively, driving the organization toward its vision.
OKRs are a powerful framework for setting and achieving goals, promoting alignment, transparency, and measurable success across all levels of an organization.
Industries
This service is primarily available to the following industry sectors:
Finance
Companies that are proponents of conscious capitalism: Aspiration, Beneficial State Bank
The finance industry has significantly transformed over the past decade, driven by technological innovation, shifting consumer expectations, and global economic changes. Just ten years ago, the sector was navigating the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, grappling with regulatory overhauls, such as the Dodd-Frank Act, and rebuilding trust with stakeholders. These changes marked the beginning of a new era of transparency, risk management, and consumer-focused innovation.
Today, the finance industry is more dynamic than ever. Digital banking and fintech have revolutionized how people interact with money, making financial services more accessible and personalized. Traditional financial institutions are evolving rapidly to compete with agile fintech startups, embracing technologies like artificial intelligence, blockchain, and cloud computing to deliver seamless, data-driven experiences. Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations have also become integral, with investors and consumers demanding greater accountability and purpose from financial institutions.
Looking ahead, the industry is poised for continued disruption and growth. The rise of generative AI, digital currencies, and decentralized finance (DeFi) is reshaping the landscape, offering opportunities to reimagine how capital flows and value is created. At the same time, challenges such as cybersecurity threats, regulatory uncertainties, and the need for inclusivity will require strategic foresight and innovation.
The finance industry stands at a crossroads, with the potential to not only drive economic growth but also foster societal impact. By embracing conscious capitalism, aligning profit with purpose, and prioritizing stakeholder well-being, the industry can lead the way in creating a more equitable and sustainable future.
Education
Companies that are proponents of conscious capitalism: Khan Academy, Duolingo
The past decade has been a period of profound change in the education industry, shaped by technology, global events, and shifting societal priorities. Ten years ago, traditional classroom models and standardized testing dominated, with technology playing a supporting role. However, the rise of online learning platforms and the increasing demand for skills-based education began to challenge the status quo.
Today, education is more accessible and diverse than ever before. The pandemic catalyzed widespread adoption of digital learning, bringing virtual classrooms, hybrid models, and micro-credentialing into the mainstream. Institutions are increasingly focused on equipping students with 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and digital literacy. Artificial intelligence and data analytics are enabling personalized learning experiences, while a growing emphasis on equity is addressing systemic gaps in access and resources.

Retail
Companies that are proponents of conscious capitalism: Starbucks, Whole Foods, Patagonia
Over the past decade, the retail industry has undergone a seismic shift, driven by technological advancements, evolving consumer expectations, and the rise of e-commerce. A decade ago, brick-and-mortar stores still reigned supreme, and digital shopping was seen as a convenience rather than a necessity. The growth of platforms like Amazon and Shopify began reshaping consumer habits, introducing new levels of accessibility and personalization.
Today, the retail industry is a complex, omnichannel ecosystem where digital and physical experiences intersect. Consumers demand seamless, personalized shopping experiences, with fast delivery, flexible payment options, and sustainability playing key roles in decision-making. The pandemic accelerated the adoption of online shopping, curbside pickup, and subscription models, while technologies like artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and blockchain are redefining customer engagement and supply chain transparency.
Looking forward, the retail landscape promises both opportunity and disruption. The rise of the metaverse, advancements in AI-driven marketing, and the increasing importance of ESG initiatives are setting the stage for a reimagined shopping experience. Retailers must also navigate challenges such as supply chain vulnerabilities, inflationary pressures, and the push for ethical sourcing and labor practices.
The retail industry is no longer just about selling products; it’s about building meaningful connections with customers. By aligning with conscious consumerism, leveraging technology responsibly, and prioritizing inclusivity and sustainability, retailers have the opportunity to create lasting impact while driving innovation and growth.

“Ms. Giordano Ullom created a wonderful experience during our Team meeting. I have been involved in several Team Bonding experiences before, but you delivered something different and enjoyable!
Normally, creating company core values and SOP’s are boring and a chore. Ms. Giordano Ullom had us playing games and enjoying the exercises so much that it was like playing games at a party.
I enjoyed the Team meeting and look forward to working with Ms. Giordano Ullom again!”
